Late in 2007 I went to Furzefield school and spent a day each with the two classes of year 4 (8/9 year olds). I taught them how glass is made and what can be done with it. The theme for their term was the environment so we collected natural objects from outside and had an art lesson, drawing and painting, eventually coming up with the design for their piece of the window. Each child had a glass tile and small glass pieces (fired in a kiln first to round the sharp edges off) to make up a mosaic design. The finished pieces were then fused in a kiln with wire at each corner ready for assembly. The finished piece is made up of sixty 13cm tiles.
